Evaluating the User Experience of Tangible Interface Prototypes

چکیده
In order to choose the right method to evaluate the user experience (UX) of products, several UX dimensions need to be taken into account. The choice of a method for evaluating these dimensions also depends on other factors such as development phase, time constraints or available expertise. We present an adapted method for qualitatively evaluating tangible user interface (TUI) prototypes based on three existing methods (the explicitation interview, Open Profiling of Quality and the Repertory Grid Technique), which can be used for evaluating physical characteristics of TUIs. Two case studies are presented which will be used to further refine and validate the adapted method.

Museomix: lessons learned from an open creative hackathon in museums
In the past decades, museums have become places that do not only conserve and store artefacts, but also provide visitors with education and entertainment. They are now challenged to become open, collaborative and creative spaces. In this paper we describe a participative event, involving both visitors and museum actors during a threeday hackathon in order to create digital artefacts for museums...
متن کاملSimulation and Digital Prototyping of Tangible User Interfaces
Physical prototyping is an important part in research and development of tangible user interfaces (TUIs). On the way from the idea to a working prototype, hardware prototypes usually have to be crafted repeatedly in numerous iterations. However, this can be very timeand cost-intensive when non-standard, expensive hardware components are part of the design. This brings us to think about digital ...
متن کاملUsing ARToolKit Markers to Build Tangible Prototypes and Simulate Other Technologies
Quick prototyping of tangible user interfaces is currently hampered by availability of toolkits and the double challenge of tinkering with software and hardware. While software may be downloaded, hardware cannot. As a work-around for a class on experimental prototyping of tangible appliances we utilized the ARToolKit that tracks optical markers. By creatively adapting it, our students quickly d...

Prototyping is an important part in research and development of tangible user interfaces (TUIs). On the way from the idea to a working prototype, new hardware prototypes usually have to be crafted repeatedly in numerous iterations. This brings us to think about virtual prototypes that exhibit the same functionality as a real TUI, but reduce the amount of time and resources that have to be spent...
متن کاملEvaluating the Tangible Interface and Virtual Characters in the Interactive COHIBIT Exhibit
When using virtual characters in the human-computer interface the question arises of how useful this kind of interface is: whether the human user accepts, enjoys and profits from this form of interaction. Thorough system evaluations, however, are rarely done. We propose a post-questionnaire evaluation for a virtual character system that we apply to COHIBIT, an interactive museum exhibit with vi...
